Dr. Hong-Jin Kim of 1mm Plastic Surgery stated, "Eye revision surgery should be performed after the scar tissue formed following the first surgery has stabilized to minimize side effects." He added, "Generally, it is appropriate to consider revision surgery at least six months after the initial surgery, because if revision surgery is forced before the damaged skin and tissue have fully recovered, there is a high risk of side effects such as worsening scarring or recurrence."
Dr. Kim explains that the most important factor for the success of revision eye surgery is thoroughly analyzing the cause of the failure of the initial surgery. Various causes exist for each patient, including left-right asymmetry, excessive thickness of the eyeliner, and issues caused by scarring.
Director Kim pointed out, "When performing revision surgery, one must carefully consider not only external improvements but also functional factors such as the characteristics of the eye shape, skin laxity, and scar condition," adding, "For example, if excessive line adjustment is performed when there is insufficient skin laxity, it can lead to unnatural results."
He added, "Beyond simply improving the appearance, a multifaceted approach is needed to increase patient satisfaction and resolve functional issues," and stated, "Since eye revision surgery deals with cases where the first surgery failed, it requires a higher level of know-how and surgical skill, so I recommend choosing an experienced plastic surgeon."
He also added, "Eye revision surgery is a highly complex cosmetic procedure, and the choice of medical team has a significant impact on the outcome," stating, "Eye revision surgery should be performed after sufficient consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who possesses extensive experience, aesthetic sense, and anatomical knowledge, and can accurately analyze the causes of failure, including the degree of adhesion and scarring that occurred after the initial surgery."
